So, I love Becky Nelson. She’s a spectacular design chick, fellow KCRW enthusiast, and an all around awesome person. She and I worked together last month and somehow got in a conversation about making playlists for dinner parties. Creating a list of songs to provide the soundtrack for the evening is one of my favorite things about having people over for dinner.
Becky asked if I’d heard about the blog curated by a couple who pairs recipes for food with a song you should listen to while eating it. NO! Where was this blog? Could she send it to me like, yesterday?
And oh she did…
Turntable Kitchen
Kasey & Matthew, a cute couple from San Fran curate a sick blog that does indeed pair two of everybody’s favorite things: music and food.
I’m kind of overwhelmed trying to convey how awesome I think this blog is.
Like, the suggestion to pair Sweet Corn & Raspberry Ice Cream (including a recipe so you can make it) with Feist’s Mushaboom.
Or how about an all american juicy burger to be paired withThe Black Key’s Brothers album. Or read the “just too cute” story of why Beirut is meaningful to Matthew & Kasey as well as a pairing for their new album The Rip Tide and Poached Halibut with Corn Salad.
And then there are the mixtapes: carefully selected fresh off the presses songs creating eclectic, ready made playlists for each month (like August’s mix) as well as other awesome little projects like The Covers Dinner Mix.
And if you’re a foodie you’re definitely going to find the site drool-worthy. With a well organized recipe index, amazing food photography, and a welcoming blog writer to coax you into trying that chicken skewers recipe you’ve been eyeing but weren’t sure you could make happen, it’s easy to get lost on the site for hours dreaming up your next dinner menu will include. I’m supposed to be contributing a pie to the Good Food blog so I might have to try my hand at this amazing tart recipe - and I’ll be sure to have the Wilco blasting, of course!
Kasey & Matthew have manicured this blog so well – down to the cute titles (single serving posts v. musical pairings posts) and clever witticisms (their search bar at the top says “take us for a spin”) and I just can’t get enough. I’m so jealous that I’m not in on their Pairings Box train yet but I’m keeping my eyes open for when they’ll start accepting more people.
